The most important asset of any fire company is its community. The understanding and respect of its residents inspire and drive the membership.
Mechanicsburg is still a "Small Town" community in a lot of ways. This trait is it's appeal
Not only are we trusted with its protection but in educating its residents young and old
We have aimed many programs directly at our residents. From smoke detectors to seat belts, in scout meetings and schools. Education and community involvement are just as important as hose and nozzle

Smoke Detectors Starting in 2000 the membership committed to a program aimed at putting at least one smoke detector in every residence in the Borough. With backing from local businesses the program was launched via a media blitz offering smoke detectors to anyone free of charge. The first year alone we distributed 114 smoke detectors. With an additional 65 distributed in 2001. In addition to distribution our members confirm the presents of smoke detectors in any residence which we respond to. If none are present we supply the home owner with one before departure. We are hoping to greatly expand this program in 2002 with the help and backing of the Cumberland County Coroners Office The Confederates Attack Click on the picture for the video |

Fire Prevention Education Our fire prevention education program as experienced tremendous growth in the last 5 years, Thanks to the dedication of a few extremely committed individuals we now call on all children in our 1st due area through grade three which attend public or private schools and daycare centers. In 2001 we were responsible for the education of over 1200 children in the dangers of fire and how to handle an emergency situation. This program is made possible by company and local business funding

Santa's Yearly Visit
Every year just after Thanksgiving the man in red makes an early appearance in Mechanicsburg.
The first Christmas Party was held December 25, 1914
During the depression many kids in the borough depended on the Washies Christmas Party. The candy, oranges and ice cream were the only treats many of them received during the holiday season. Individuals would donate their sugar coupons during WWII to ensure the fire company had enough candy to continue the tradition.
Children by the hundreds visit the station every year to get a jump on Santa's list. The membership along with the Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce have assured that this tradition will continue for years to come. Santa 2000 |
