Motorized Apparatus the Early Years Pre 1960
This era saw the emerging of the Washington Rural Service. These were rigs designed and purchased specifically for response into the outlaying communities. This apparatus was purchased by the fire company.
In addition the borough also owned and housed a pumper in Washington Station. This was for use at borough incidents only and was not permitted to leave Mechanicsburg for any reason.
This practice has long since faded at Company 28. Modern Mutual Aid agreements have made this practice obsolete. Apparatus is now run into all areas regardless of ownership in a theory of the "best piece first" This practice allows for the best fire service we can provide regardless of where the person in need lives
