As we proceed with the duties of emergency services we run across incidents we would rather forget and then move on with our lives. Unfortunately sometimes things hit closer to home than anyone is ready for.
October 5, 2003 was just such a day. On a well known road not far from his home Joe left us in a tragic traffic accident. While the details of the incident are not important for this memorial Joe left us as he lived, enjoying life and with a constant smile on his face. Joe had come to love the fire service in the last three years, not only as a dedicated Washie but as a member of Silver Springs Volunteer Fire Company. Joe enjoyed many close friends in the Upper Allen Fire Department as well. Particularly close to the young people in these organizations Joe made time to talk and share tales with anyone no matter how young or old. This is with out a doubt one of the traits that made him a friend to everyone who got to know him. |

Joes passing has let a hole in the lives of many friends and family members, the Washies have taken steps to assure he will never be forgotten
In remembrance the Washington Fire Company has created the Joseph D. Beigh Memorial Award. This award will be a celebration of youth in the Washies membership and will be presented annually to one of our young members who best exemplifies the honor, traditions and friendships experienced in the fire service.
Well done, thou good and faithful servant
