The Mechanicsburg Museum has
put together a one of a kind display highlighting the long, rich history of the
fire service in the Borough of Mechanicsburg.

The display is slated to run through June
30, 2007 and features photos, equipment, artifacts, and archival documents
from the Washington Fire Company #1, Citizens Fire and Rescue
Company #2 and the Rescue Hook and Ladder Company #1 which is no
longer in operation.

This event is one of the largest held by
the museum and completely fills the MMA's newly restored freight
station museum complex.
  Many items
reflect a time ruled by horses, steam, and a strong civic
responsibility towards protecting the community. While the bulk
of the displays carry a historic theme a few modern firefighting
items have been included as examples of firefighting then and now.

You may never again have an opportunity
such as this to educate yourself and family members in the extensive history of the two
organizations which protect you and your property against fire
to this very day. There are literally hundreds of items on loan
from the participating fire companies as well as from private
collections.
-
View photos and actual components
of the very first hand operated fire engine ever used in the
protection of Mechanicsburg.
-
Learn about the era of steam in
which horse drawn steamers rumbled down Main Street
responding
to a turn of the century emergency.
-
Included are several historic
photo collections covering some of the largest fires to hit our
home town.
With a collection as detailed as
this you are bound to enjoy your visit and become fascinated
with this portion of the communities history.

This collection will be on display
through June 30, 2007. The facility is open to the public
Tuesday - Saturday 12:00 noon to 3:00 p.m. Private viewing
can be arranged |
