The Union Church | ||||
|
|
The Union Church has become synonymous with the fire company. Shown along side of the station in countless pictures and drawings you would be hard pressed to find a picture of one without the other.
Built in 1825 on land donated by the Martin Rupp Family the name "Union' was based on it's multi- denominational beginnings. It now stands as the oldest public building in Cumberland County
The churches history has not always been a smooth one. Gutted by fire and rebuilt in 1903.
Today thanks to a handful of dedicated church trustees and community leaders the church building has been restored with most of its original furnishing. A must see when visiting Mechanicsburg.
The church is still in use today. Special multi-denominational service are held on occasion. Several wedding ceremonies are held annually with Mayor Jack Ritter officiating.
